How should I think about budget sustainability as part of this program?
Funding for FRNYC will be a co-investment model. Schools will centrally be funded to support early college credit, work-based learning and advising (advising will be a shared co-investment); schools will be expected support instructional costs associated with FRNYC.
Based on Key Implementation Measures, schools will go through an initial designation review process with the Office of Student Pathways to ensure they are able to implement the FRNYC model with fidelity going forward starting for cohorts 1 and 2 for FY26 funding. Schools who receive initial designation may be eligible to grow their pathways and number of students. In the out years (~3 years) student outcomes will determine full FRNYC designation. Schools that are classified as at risk via the designation process may have funding reduced or removed.
If I am an FRNYC or CTE school, am I still eligible for the College and Career Advising SAM?
All schools should complete this portion of the application; however, FutureReadyNYC schools will receive advising funds via their FRNYC allocations
What is the Pathways Summer Institute? Who is expected to attend this training?
Members of your Postsecondary Leadership team will gather as a professional learning community to unpack the what, why, who, how of career connected learning and pathways - including FRNYC adn CRMYA and to develop your school's vision and action plan for implementing these programs in the coming school year. By the end of the institute your team will:
- Align on your tasks and outcomes needed to implement FRNYC and/or CRMYA programming effectively this school year, including preparation for the Key Implementation Measures (KIMs) and FRNYC Designation if in FRNYC
- Complete a thorough review of pathway-aligned standards and available curricular and advising materials to support career-connected learning
- Develop a sequence of core student experiences for students in grades 9-12, strategies for programming core experiences in the coming school year, and strategies for differentiation for students with disabilities and multilingual learners
Centrally funded per session is available for schools to send a team of up to 4 people, pending confirmation of funding. This should include at least one administrator, a pathway-specific content teacher, and a counselor.
What is the distinction between FutureReadyNYC and Career and Technical Education?
The Chancellor has outlined a bold vision grounded in career-connected learning as key to both reimagining the educational experience for New York City Public Schools students and to activating student passion and purpose. Aligned to this vision, FutureReadyNYC is an innovative model blending college and career preparation into a student experience for every student. In order to bring the Chancellor’s vision for expanded career-connected learning to scale, across NYC public high schools, FutureReadyNYC was designed to lean on the best CTE has to offer in terms of student experience and preparation for successful college and career outcomes at schools not necessarily initially seeking or having the capacity to support the structures and program mandates required for NYSED CTE-endorsement.
Career and Technical Education and FutureReadyNYC, both provide high-quality career preparation opportunities for students. One difference is that FutureReadyNYC programs offer flexibility to schools in designing career-connected learning experiences, while CTE programs must meet specific requirements to earn NYSED CTE endorsement. That said, FutureReadyNYC programs can choose to seek NYSED approval as CTE programs if desired.
If we are currently an FRNYC school, can we use this application to add a new pathway?
Yes - you will be asked if there are any new pathways that you'd like to add
What percentage of instructional costs will need to be absorbed by the school budget for year three schools?
All instructional costs should be absorbed by the school budget, but that doesn’t mean you can’t use the funds for other personnel (such as a teacher that is serving as a WBL coordinator)
Is there a way to access copies of the FutureReadyNYC application and spending plan I submitted for this year?
Please view your approved SY24-25 budget plan from the most recent school year here in column M.
How does the switch from section-based funding to per-student funding impact budget planning? If we’re not specifying one or two sections, do we estimate based on the number of students we expect to add?
You will receive an individual link that provides your current enrollment data in STARS. Using this information, you can project your anticipated enrollment for the next year. For new pathways, we expect a minimum of 25 students in 9th and 10th grades to ensure efficient use of resources.
A school wants to expand their pathway and wants to understand where to apply for another pathway in the application, as well as how to support with new staffing
All returning FRNYC schools have the opportunity to propose growing an existing FRNYC pathway sections and/or proposing a new FRNYC pathway via the QIP survey in the integrated application. FRNYC growth proposal approvals are determined based on the schools SY 24-25 KIMs performance.
